Connections through a Pandemic

Video Messages Connect Community

During Spring Break in March 2020 our schools in British Colmbia were closed due to the CoVID 19 pandemic. Dr. Bonnie Henry our Provincial Health Officer ordered our schools closed. Many of us thought this would be a short closure however we found the weeks and months becoming a reality. While our learners where at home our school connectiveness remained in tact through our amazing staff and their efforts on sustaining learning remotely. At school, Mrs. Wallace, school Principal,  created a connected community through daily recored announcements. Mrs. Wallace started out each morning recording a short video announcement for the day following the same format that was used at school by our student leaders. The video was posted on a Mrs. Wallace YouTube channel and on the school website. The annoucements allowed our community of learners to keep connected - the connectiveness allowed our students to be engaged in their learning at home. The street data to substainuated this assertation was multiple emails from staff and students expressing the joy that the video announcements brought into their homes. The staff added the link to the announcements in their learning plans. Parent feedback was positive as they enjoyed seeing the announcments and commented that this was the way the students started their learning day. Relationships and connectiveness is key to student learning. Nuturing relationships in our school community creates learners that are successful and happy!
