September Steps 2025
Last school year, we dedicated time to plan for the diversity in our classrooms, the use of instructional routines and the use of math materials. We dived deeper into numeracy tasks and created opportunities for bridging language into mathematics.
As we enter September, we spent part of our September Professional Development day looking ahead to a new school year, collaborating and reflecting on our students’ strengths, areas for growth, and next steps for our students this school year through a numeracy and mathematics lens.
Strengths:
*patterns across all grades that our students enjoyed doing math activities using multiple types of materials (number lines, Cuisenaire rods, pattern blocks, white boards)
*showing learning through collaborative group work and various math workshops and routines
Areas for Growth:
*recalling and using multiple strategies to show their learning
*understanding that proficient isn't just revealing the answer
*using common math language to explain thinking
Our Next Steps:
*continue deepening our understanding and use of rich numeracy tasks so that students can feel confident and enjoy math learning opportunities
*develop and use vocabulary cards to strengthen and embed consistent math vocabulary across all grade levels to support a shared language
*create more opportunities for meaningful staff collaboration
